Guvna B & Kudus

Mohammed Kudus & Guvna B | The Big Interview

Mohammed Kudus is loving life in east London.

The Ghana international has quickly settled into his new surroundings at West Ham United, establishing himself as an important member of the team in a short space of time.

Scoring goals in the Premier League and on the European stage, setting London Stadium alight with blistering performances, and earning rave views from manager David Moyes, his teammates and fans alike, the 23-year-old already looks at home in Claret and Blue.

His signing caught the eye on social media, not just because of the magnitude of the deal, but in part thanks to the involvement of award-winning rapper Guvna B in the announcement video.

A song written specially for the announcement by the lifelong Hammers supporter captured the imagination of not just West Ham fans, but football fans across the globe.

Catching up with the 34-year-old for an in-depth chat on life since joining West Ham, Kudus was keen to talk about the song once again.

“The intro song for my signing with West Ham… everyone was asking me about the song, saying it was mad and asking me where they could download it!” the No14 smiled.

Both Kudus and Guvna B take great pride in their Ghanaian heritage and, as the pair walked along the canal near the forward’s new home in east London, they discussed growing up in Nima, a superb of the capital city of Accra.

“A lot of bad stuff can happen there but I truly believe there is a lot of talent there also. For me, I credit my family and my coach at Strong Tower FC as playing a part in getting me to where I am now,” he explained.

“I was at school playing football games and the scout saw me there. When I joined, they were one of the biggest clubs in my town, and that was when things started to get serious for me.

“I was okay at school, though. I was more focused on football and I couldn’t wait for the bell to ring so I could get my stuff and go to training. In a way, all my focus was on football. But I did try to focus on my education also because you need to be able to do things like understand your contract. So I paid attention in school but my focus was on football.

“As I say, there is a lot of talent there and the greater spotlight I can put on it, the better things can be.”

In a wide-ranging conversation, Guvna B also asked Kudus about settling into life in London, adapting to the Premier League, his experiences during his time with Ajax and his aims for his career with the Hammers.

The duo also stopped for traditional Ghaniain cuisine, and you can check out the full conversation in the video player above.
