West Ham United's 17-match European unbeaten run was ended in the Greek port city of Piraeus, where Olympiacos ran out 2-1 UEFA Europa League Group A matchday three winners.
The home side avenged their 6-2 aggregate defeat in the European Cup Winners' Cup back in 1965 thanks to two first-half goals, which rendered Lucas Paquetá's late volley a mere consolation.
And so it was that the UEFA Europa Conference League winners were defeated at a noisy and colourful Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium and saw a proud run dating back to May 2022 ended by the 47-times Greek champions.
The Irons will meet Olympiacos again in a fortnight's time, when they visit London Stadium for the reverse fixture.
