Goals in either half would give West Ham United a 2-1 win away in the second game of their 2023/24 UEFA Europa League Group A fixtures.
David Moyes' Irons took to the field to Bundesliga side SC Freiburg on Thursday evening and enjoyed a bright start to the fixture.
Lucas Paquetá gave the Hammers a ninth minute lead with a towering header from Jarrod Bowen's cross, with the Brazilian also seeing a left-footed strike ruled out for offside not long after.
Mohammed Kudus came close to adding a second for the visitors too, when his low effort went under Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu's fingers and struck the post.
SC Freiburg hit back early in the second half. Roland Sallai’s first effort, in a crowded West Ham penalty box, was excellently saved by Łukasz Fabiański. So too was the volleyed follow-up from Kübler, but Sallai was in the right place to power home the equaliser at the first time of asking.
On 66 minutes, West Ham would retake the advantage. Nayef Aguerd would rise highest to meet James Ward-Prowse's corner, turning the exceptional delivery into the back of the net via the underside of the cross-bar.
