West Ham United v RC Celta de Vigo
Betway Cup, London Stadium, Saturday 10 August 2024, 3pm BST
Referee: Darren Bond
Assistant Referees: Adam Nunn and Dan Cook
Fourth Official: Paul Johnson
Darren Bond has been confirmed as the referee for Saturday’s Betway Cup match at home to RC Celta de Vigo.
Born in Lancashire, the 43-year-old experienced whistler has been a part of Professional Game Match Officials Limited’s (PGMOL) Select Group One since 2023, having established himself as an EFL Championship veteran during his career, taking charge over 200 games in the second tier.
Last season saw Bond officiate five Premier League matches, while he also refereed 14 times in the Championship, on five occasions in the FA Cup, and once in the EFL Cup during 2023/24.
Bond is yet to referee a West Ham United match but served as the fourth official in the Hammers’ draws with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United last season, while also working in the 4-3 defeat at Newcastle United in March.
Adam Nunn and Dan Cook will serve as the assistant referees at London Stadium.
Nunn and Cook regularly officiate Premier League matches, having served as assistants for the Irons on several occasions throughout last season, but never together.
Cook was an assistant in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in December and the final-day victory over Luton Town, while Nunn officiated in the Hammers’ 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur and draws with AFC Bournemouth and Liverpool.
Both also regularly officiate in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, having also been selected to assist at the UEFA Euro 2024, serving as assistants to Anthony Taylor in Spain’s semi-final with Germany.
Paul Johnson will work as the fourth official on Saturday.
Johnson was promoted to the Step 1 Level of referees midway through the 2021/22 campaign, and has spent the last few seasons predominantly refereeing in the National League and Premier League 2.
