Match Officials confirmed for Liverpool and Manchester United

Tim Robinson has been selected to referee West Ham United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Liverpool. 

The official from West Sussex takes charge in the Carabao Cup for the third time this campaign, having refereed Liverpool’s third round win over Leicester City and Chelsea’s fourth round victory against Blackburn Rovers. 

Robinson also took charge of the EFL League One Play-Off final last season, as Sheffield Wednesday beat Barnsley 1-0 after extra time at Wembley Stadium. 

The official as promoted to the Select Group 1 of officials for this campaign, having refereed his first Premier League game in December 2019.

Experienced Premier League assistant referees Edward Smart and Nick Greenhalgh will be assisting Robinson on Wednesday. 

Smart has run the line in the English top flight since the 2014/15 campaign, doing so in 12 Premier League matches so far this season, including the Hammers' 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. 

Greenhalgh, meanwhile, started in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season and has been an assistant referee in 14 Premier League games this campaign, including West Ham's draw with Newcastle and the season opener at AFC Bournemouth.

Experienced official Anthony Taylor will serve as the fourth official. The 45-year-old has been a Premier League referee since 2010 and has previously refereed two FA Cup finals, an EFL Cup final, the FA Community Shield and, at international level, the 2021 UEFA Nations League final between France and Spain.

Video Assistant Referee technology will not be used in the quarter-final stage of the Carabao Cup.

Simon Hooper will take charge of Saturday's Premier League home clash with Manchester United.

Born in Swindon, the 41-year-old began refereeing in The Football League in 2008 and took charge of his first Premier League match in August 2015; a 3-1 win for Crystal Palace at Norwich City. 

Promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2018, he refereed 29 Premier League matches last season and has been in charge of eleven games in the top flight so far this campaign. 

Hooper was also named the referee for the Irons' Carabao Cup fourth round win over Arsenal. His most recent West Ham Premier League fixture was the final match of the 2022/23 Premier League season, where Moyes’ Hammers were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. 

Hooper will be assisted on Saturday by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long. Holmes has worked as an assistant referee in 14 Premier League matches this campaign, including the Hammers' 3-1 win away against Brighton & Hove Albion, and has been a linesman in the top flight since the 2012/13 season. 

Long, meanwhile, has worked in the Premier League since the 2009/10 season and has run the line at 13 top flight games this season.

Thomas Bramall will be the fourth official at London Stadium, having undertaken the same responsibilities in the Hammers' away Premier League clash with Aston Villa in October. The Sheffield-born official has been a Premier League referee since last season and has been the match official in four top flight games so far this campaign.

Paul Tierney will oversee VAR this weekend. The 42-year-old official from Wigan has been a Premier League referee since 2014 and has notably taken charge of the 2019 Championship Play-Off final between Aston Villa and Derby County, the 2021 EFL Cup final between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, and most recently the 2023 FA Cup final which saw City defeat Manchester United.
