West Ham United and the Premier League held a graduation event for our U19 players on Thursday morning to celebrate the academic success of last year’s U18s cohort.
PL Academy Support Manager Farai Hallam, PL Head of Education & Player Care David Rainford and PFA & Academy of Football graduate Joe Widdowson were all in attendance to present the players with their qualification certificates and congratulate them on their successes.
The current U19 group - including Regan Clayton, Kaelan Casey, George Earthy, Divin Mubama, Sean Tarima, Callum Marshall, Billy Bates, Gideon Kodua, Mason Terry, and Patrick Kelly – all completed a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sporting Excellence & Performance & Level 3 Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence Performer.
Terry was selected as Scholar of the Year 2022/23, for commitment and performance across the whole scholarship in all areas.
As he was unable to attend the award ceremony in May, the goalkeeper was officially awarded on Thursday.
Head of Education Jamie Bather said: “We truly value the importance of education in our provision. We all know how brilliant this group of boys are on the pitch with the success and achievement they had last year in the U18s and the way they have started this season in the U21s.
"However, it's brilliant to be able to share and celebrate how fantastic they are off the pitch too, their characters, personalities, and academic achievement.
They all have the academic platform to access higher and further education now or later in life to be able to succeed long after their prospective football careers."
