Shekiera Martinez’s superb strike against Chelsea has been nominated for the Barclays Women's Super League Goal of the Month award for March.
The striker produced an incredible piece of control to bring down Riko Ueki’s lofted pass before whipping an unstoppable low finish past Hannah Hampton from just inside the box.
It was her first goal of the afternoon which halved the deficit with three first-half minutes remaining, before our No19 struck late with a diving header to salvage a point against the WSL leaders in a 2-2 draw at Kingsmeadow.
Martinez, who has thrived since returning from her loan spell with Frauen-Bundesliga side SC Freiburg in January, has now tallied five goals in eight league outings this season, helping Rehanne Skinner's side up to seventh in the standings, and within three points of fifth, which would mark their highest finish since promotion to the top flight in 2018.
The Germany U23 international, who is currently away with her country, has been nominated alongside Arsenal duo Mariona Caldentey and Beth Mead, Chelsea’s Sandy Baltimore, Crystal Palace’s Ashleigh Weerden, Leicester City’s Yūka Momiki, Liverpool’s Fūka Nagano and Manchester United pair Grace Clinton and Melvine Malard.
