On most Saturdays, an 8.30am knock on the door would not be greeted with too much enthusiasm.
But last weekend, for Chicago Hammer Justin Wasik, his wake-up call is one that will live long in the memory.
For it was former West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood who was on his doorstep, waiting with a signed 2024/25 Home Shirt for the Stateside Hammer, just in time to watch Graham Potter’s men take on Everton in the Premier League.
Harewood, who scored 56 goals in 170 games for the Hammers between 2003 and 2007, was in Chicago to trail the team’s involvement in the Premier League Summer Series, when the Irons will take on Manchester United, Everton and AFC Bournemouth in New Jersey, Chicago and Atlanta across late July and early August.
As part of the trip, which also saw the 2006 FA Cup finalist team up with Hammerhead to hand out more than 130 West Ham-branded Lou Malnati’s pizzas to Windy City locals, he joined our Chicago Hammers to cheer the team on from over the Atlantic Ocean at AJ Hudson’s Public House.

Come rain or shine, no matter the kick-off time, the Chicago Hammers always gather at AJ Hudson’s, so Wasik was delighted to be able to share the experience of the 1-1 draw with Harewood.
He takes up the story: "This past Saturday was one of the best days out with the Chicago Hammers. Not only was the sun shining on a beautiful St. Patrick's Day weekend, but we all got to meet Marlon Harewood.
“What a treat it was. Marlon was so approachable and down-to-earth, and I truly enjoyed getting to know him. On top of that, Marlon and the Club surprised me with a signed home jersey, truly a moment I'll never forget.
“Thanks so much to the Club, the Chicago Hammers, and all the supporters of this great Football Club for such a memorable experience."
