West Ham United can confirm that Manuel Lanzini will leave the Club when his contract expires on 30 June.
The Argentine midfielder joined the Hammers, initially on loan, from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira in the summer of 2015, making the move permanent the following year.
Over his eight seasons in Claret and Blue, Lanzini made 226 appearances in all competitions and scored 32 goals – twice winning the Club’s Goal of the Season award, for his unforgettable last-gasp strike at Tottenham Hotspur in 2020/21 and then a superb volleyed finish at Crystal Palace the following campaign.
Hammer of the Year runner-up in 2016/17, Lanzini bravely fought back from a serious knee injury that cost him a place in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup finals squad in 2018 to regain his national team spot and play a key role in West Ham’s success over the last three years. He made eleven appearances in our glorious UEFA Europa Conference League run this season, scoring in our home and away victories over Danish side Silkeborg IF.
A firm favourite among Hammers fans and his team-mates alike, Lanzini marked his final home game for the Club with a goal to round off a 3-1 win over Leeds United at London Stadium last month, and leaves having earned himself a place inside West Ham United’s top 70 all-time appearance makers.
David Moyes said: ‘On behalf of the players and coaching staff, I would like to thank Manu and wish him all the very best for the future.
“Manu has been a tremendous servant for the football club and a brilliant player for me in my time here as manager. In my first spell he played a key role in helping us to stay up, and he has always been someone I can rely on.
“He has some wonderful memories at West Ham – including that famous equaliser at Tottenham when we came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. People still talk about that goal and what that result did to increase the confidence and belief around the Club at that time.
“Manu is a fantastic professional, a really good lad, and whichever club he joins will have an excellent player on their hands.
“We are sorry to see him go, but he deserves the opportunity to play more regularly elsewhere, and we wish him well in his next adventure.”
Sporting Director Mark Noble added: “It has been a privilege to be a team-mate and a friend of Manu’s during his time at West Ham United.
“When he first walked into Chadwell Heath, as a 21-year-old on loan, I have to be honest, I looked at Manu and thought: ‘He might struggle in the Premier League.’
“Ten minutes later, I saw him in training and thought: ‘He’s going to be one of the most special players West Ham fans will ever see.’
“Manu is what I would call a player’s player. Until you have trained and played with him, you really don’t appreciate just how gifted and talented he is. Technically superb, fantastic vision, and so unselfish in how he uses the ball and helps the team.
“For the last eight years, he has given absolutely everything for the Club. It was a true pleasure to play alongside him in West Ham’s midfield, and to count him as a great friend during his time here.
“He has a beautiful family who I’ve grown to know very well, and I can’t speak highly enough of Manu as a player and a person. I’m sure he will go on to have a successful rest of his career and I wish him every happiness.
“I told him, after he left here as a European champion last week, that I will always be here for him, and he will always be welcome back by everyone at West Ham United.”
