Following the confirmation of his permanent transfer to West Ham United, we take a photographic journey through Luis Guilherme’s glittering career, that has already yielded multiple successes despite his tender age of 18.
Having been born in the port city of Aracaju, the capital of the state of Sergipe, on Brazil’s east coast, he played for a number of sides before being recruited by Palmeiras and relocating to São Paulo at the age of eleven, in 2017.
At club level, Luis Guilherme played his part in several junior title wins - including an Under-17 quadruple consisting of the São Paulo state championship, Brazilian championship, Brazilian Cup and Brazilian Super Cup - before making his senior first-team debut for Palmeiras in a 4-2 home win over Tombense in the Brazilian Cup third round in April 2023, aged 17 years and two months.
By the end of the 2023 season he had made close to 30 appearances in all competitions to help Palmeiras to the Brazilian Serie A title, while he lifted the second senior trophy of his career - the São Paulo state championship - as recently as April 2024.
He scored his first senior goal - a crucial 95th-minute winner - in Palmeiras’ 3-2 victory away at Independiente del Valle in the Ecuadorean capital, Quito, on 24 April 2024 in the Copa Libertadores.
And on the international front, Luis Guilherme has long been a mainstay in the Brazilian youth set-up, helping his country win the 2022 Montaigu Tournament at Under-17 level and the South American Under-20 Championship in 2023.
