London City Lionesses v West Ham United women’s team
Women’s League Cup Group C, Hayes Lane, Sunday 24 November 2024, 2pm GMT
West Ham United women’s team turn their attention to the Women’s League Cup on Sunday with a trip to Bromley to face London City Lionesses of the Barclays Women’s Championship.
The Hammers are top of the Group C standings after thrashing Portsmouth 6-1 in the opening game last month, but are closely followed by London City, who also picked up three points with a 1-0 win against Southampton.
Rehanne Skinner’s side will be hoping to build on the positives taken from last Saturday’s game at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays Women’s Super League, which saw the Hammers fight back from 2-0 down to level the match, but ultimately lose out on a point after Fran Kirby’s late goal.

Opposition…
London City Lionesses, who broke away from Millwall Lionesses in 2019, are enjoying a bright start to their Women’s Championship campaign, sitting fourth and only three points off top-of-the-table Birmingham City after nine games played. Looking to cause an upset on Sunday, Jocelyn Prêcheur’s side will also be hoping to respond to back-to-back league defeats, having lost 3-2 at second-placed Durham last weekend.
Prêcheur, 42, took over the reins at the Bromley-based outfit in June after a season as boss of Paris Saint Germain, which followed a year as the French side’s assistant head coach, looking to better London City’s eighth-placed finish last term.
With the Pride aiming for a successful domestic campaign, they did not mess about in the summer transfer window, securing 13 signings to craft Prêcheur’s new-look team. World Cup-winning midfielder María Pérez arrived from Barcelona, as did a trio of Sweden internationals: midfielder Julia Roddar, and wingers Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson.
Other additions included Arsenal loanee and England youth international Teyah Goldie, former Reading midfielder Gesa Marashi, who joined from Arsenal’s Professional Game Academy, goalkeeper Emily Orman from Chelsea, and attacker Isobel Goodwin from Sheffield United, who has found the back of the net on seven occasions so far this season - including a brace in last weekend’s defeat.
Previous Meetings...
West Ham boast an unbeaten head-to-head record against London City Lionesses, winning the most recent Women’s League Cup encounter in the most dramatic fashion in October 2022: a 10-9 victory on penalties after Dagný Brynjarsdóttir’s 96th-minute goal salvaged a 2-2 draw in normal time.
The Hammers also secured a 1-0 success in the Women's League Cup in 2021.
