Many Hammers’ loanees were involved in a busy weekend of Bank Holiday football across the English Football Leagues and beyond….
Flynn Downes continued Southampton’s unbeaten start to the EFL Championship as his first outing saw a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Having signed on loan last week, Downes appeared as a first-half substitute when he replaced Jack Stephens with 25 minutes played.
Downes saw Sam Edozie’s opener cancelled out by Jack Colback’s equaliser to leave the game level at the break, although Southampton would strike the winner in the second half.
Adam Armstrong converted on 64 minutes to leave Russel Martins' men fourth in the Championship table, with ten points from their first four matches.

There would also be three points for Freddie Potts as EFL League One side Wycombe Wanderers ran out 2-1 victors over Bristol Rovers at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Battling against a side many of his U21s teammates will take on in this season’s EFL Trophy, Potts was introduced for the final 20 minutes, replacing Sam Vokes with Wycombe already ahead thanks to Joe Low’s strike.
The visitors had a second too when Garath McCleary struck a goal that left Chelsea loanee Harvey Vale’s late effort meaningless.
Recording their second league win of the season, Potts and company sit 14th in League One, with seven points from their first five games.
Elsewhere, there were defeats for two Hammers goalkeepers Nathan Trott and Mason Terry.
Terry made his league debut for Isthmian Premier outfit Concord Rangers in a 3-0 defeat to Hastings United on Saturday, before his home debut saw a 3-1 loss to local rivals Canvey Island on Monday.
24-year-old Trott, meanwhile, saw Danish Superliga side Vejle FC fall to a 1-0 loss to Brondby on Monday after former Hammer Frederik Alves’ winner from the spot 16 minutes from time.
Kamarai Swyer was also involved as EFL League Two side Crawley Town were beaten by Swindon Town 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Former Academy graduate Dan Kemp was amongst the scorers, with Swyer making his league debut for the Reds as a late substitute at the County Ground.
