Loan Watch | Potts & Earthy meet as Portsmouth beat Bristol City

Five of West Ham United’s loanees were involved in a weekend of action at home and abroad.

Two of our loanees faced off against each other in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon, as Freddie Potts’ Portsmouth took on George Earthy’s Bristol City at Fratton Park.

Potts started and played the full 90 minutes, with Earthy playing 31 minutes as a substitute, and it was Portsmouth who clinched a 3-0 victory. The midfielders saw Colby Bishop give Pompey a half-time lead, before second-half goals from Josh Murphy and Callum Lang sealed all three points for the hosts. Porthsmouth's win saw them climb off the bottom, leapfrogging Hull City, while Bristol City sit 12th.

In EFL League One, Callum Marshall was withdrawn through injury for Huddersfield Town in a 2-1 away win over Mansfield Town. The Northern Ireland international striker played for 24 minutes as the Terriers scored two first-half goals to complete a fourth straight win. Ben Wiles opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Adedeji Oshilaja restored parity on 31 minutes. However, Josh Koroma struck two minutes later, and the visitors defended resolutely in the midst of Storm Darragh to make the points safe.

In EFL League Two, two further West Ham United loanees came up against each other. Academy of Football graduates Patrick Kelly and Levi Laing were unused substitutes for their respective sides as Doncaster Rovers and Cheltenham Town drew 2-2 at Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday.

In the Premier League, James Ward-Prowse remained on the bench as Nottingham Forest recorded their first win at Manchester United in almost exactly 30 years on Saturday night, winning 3-2. Elsewhere, Mason Terry and AFC Hornchurch saw their National League South fixture at Farnborough postponed.

In Spain, Nayef Aguerd started Real Sociedad's 3-0 away victory at Leganés in La Liga. Brais Méndez opened the scoring after 17 minutes, before late goals from substitute Ander Barrenetxea and captain Mikel Oyarzabal ensured the points came back to the Basque Country, leaving Sociedad sixth in the table.

In Saudi Arabia, Kurt Zouma’s Al Orobah fell to a 1-0 defeat against Al Riyadh, who, despite having ten men for 60 minutes, took all three points courtesy of Tozé's strike after 80 minutes.

In France, Mohamadou Kanté was not involved in Ligue 2 leaders Paris FC’s 2-0 away win over AC Ajaccio, while Krisztián Hegyi was an unused substitute as Motherwell defeated St Mirren 1-0 at SMiSA Stadium in the Scottish Premiership.
