A hatful of West Ham United loanees were involved across the English football pyramid and beyond in a busy weekend of action…
Midfielder Freddie Potts found himself on the scoresheet by netting his first goal for EFL League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers in stunning style on Saturday afternoon.
The 19-year-old produced an incredible volley, striking a knockdown from the edge of the area into the bottom corner with a neat swing of his right foot.
In his eleventh outing of his loan, Potts’ effort was unable to secure the points as Wycombe would eventually fall to a 3-1 defeat by Charlton Athletic.
Goals from Miles Leaburn, Slobodan Tedić, and Corey Blackett-Taylor would give the hosts the win at The Valley and leave Wycombe eleventh in the League One table. They have taken four victories from their opening eight league games.
Another Hammer was also on the scoresheet this weekend, as West Ham United women's team’s Macey Nicholls notched her second goal of the season for Hashtag United.
The Tags continued their winning start in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division, beating bottom side London Bees 3-0 at Woodlands School Stadium.
The midfielder scored her first goal since joining on dual-registration terms against Rugby Borough last weekend and was on hand a week later to slot home a rebound after Sammy Rowland’s shot hit the post.
Nicholls will hope to make her sixth appearance for the Tags when they welcome Oxford United in the FA Women’s National League Cup on Sunday 1 October.
Further away from east London, goalkeeper Nathan Trott also saw a positive result as Vejle battled to a 1-1 draw with Lyngby in the Danish Superliga on Friday evening.
Starting between the sticks from the ninth consecutive match, Trott and company fell behind to Andri Guojohnsen, who netted just shy of the hour.
The visitors responded quickly to salvage a draw when Kristian Kirkegaard struck just six minutes later to secure Vejle’s fourth point in their last three matches.
As it stands, Trott and company sit eleventh in the Danish Superliga table, with nine league matches played.
Archie Woods was a second-half substitute in Dartford’s 1-0 Kent derby win over Tonbridge in the National League South.
Paul Rooney’s first-half strike saw Dartford return to winning ways, with their third win of the league season.
With the side 1-0 up, Woods was brought on and helped see his side over the line to a second victory in five league outings.
Dartford are 15th in the league table, having taken 12 points from their first ten league games.
Two further players would taste defeats across the weekend in Mason Terry and Flynn Downes.
Midfielder Downes started as Southampton fell to a 2-1 defeat by Middlesbrough, while Terry, who made a sequence of impressive saves throughout, saw Concord Rangers beaten 2-0 by Dulwich Hamlet.
Southampton sit 13th in the EFL Championship and Concord Rangers are left still searching for their first win of 2023/24 in the Isthmian Premier Division.
Midfielders Keenan Appiah-Forson and Kamarai Swyer, meanwhile, were not involved for National League side Dagenham & Redbridge or EFL League Two club Crawley Town across the weekend.
