Callum Marshall celebrates scoring against Stevenage

Loan Watch | Marshall on target, joy for Dolaghan

Eight of West Ham United’s loanees were involved in a busy weekend of action throughout the English football pyramid and abroad...

Callum Marshall was on target again as Huddersfield Town maintained their promotion challenge with a 2-1 win at Stevenage in EFL League One.

The Northern Irish striker netted within three minutes of kick-off at Broadhall Way, playing his part in the build-up before making a perfectly-time run to the near post to convert wing-back Ruben Roosken’s low cross. It was his eighth goal in 33 League One appearances.

Brandon Hanlan equalised for Stevenage on eleven minutes, but Nigel Lonwijk’s 24th-minute header secured three points for the Terriers, who now sit fifth, six points behind Wycombe in the second automatic promotion place and four ahead of Bolton Wanderers in seventh.

Gideon Kodua was not involved in Wycombe’s 1-0 defeat at leaders Birmingham City.

In the EFL Championship, Freddie Potts was an unused substitute as Portsmouth were defeated 1-0 at Luton Town, while George Earthy’s Bristol City were not in action. The Robins travel to Millwall on Tuesday evening.

In EFL League Two, Patrick Kelly missed Doncaster Rovers’ 3-0 home victory over Newport County through suspension, while Michael Forbes remains unavailable for Colchester United, who won 1-0 at MK Dons.

In the National League, Regan Clayton played the final 35 minutes as a substitute for Dagenham & Redbridge, but was unable to prevent his side losing 3-1 at home to Boston United. The Daggers are looking over their shoulders now, as they sit just two points above Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead United, who occupy the final relegation place.

Goalkeeper Mason Terry also ended on the losing side as AFC Hornchurch relinquished an early lead to lose 2-1 at struggling Weymouth in National League South. The Urchins sit comfortably in mid-table, but their Play-Off hopes are likely over.

There was better news for Brad Dolaghan, who is now one game from a possible Wembley appearance after Aldershot Town won 3-0 at Sittingbourne in the FA Trophy quarter-finals. The striker appeared as a late substitute, as did former Academy of Football youngster Kai Corbett.

Fellow goalkeeper Krisztián Hegyi’s Debreceni VSC remain in grave danger of being relegated from the Hungarian top-flight after losing 2-1 at home to Fehérvár on Sunday.

Debreceni outshot their opponents 18-6 and enjoyed 71% possession, but were made to pay for not taking their chances as striker Ivan Šaponjić and winger Mátyás Katona fired Fehérvár into a 2-0 lead. Brandon Domingues got one back for the home side, but they could not find an equaliser. Defeat leaves Debreceni eleventh in the 12-team table, five points from safety with eleven games to play.

In Italy, Maxwel Cornet appeared as a second-half substitute and helped Genoa recover from a half-time deficit to draw 1-1 with Empoli. A draw means Genoa remain 12th in the Serie A table, nine points above the relegation zone, but 16 behind Bologna in the final European qualification place.

Kurt Zouma also appeared as a substitute, albeit all the goals had been scored when the France defender was introduced for Al-Orobah in their 2-1 home win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

In France, Mohamadou Kanté appeared as a substitute as Paris FC won 3-2 at Annecy to maintain second place in Ligue 2 and remain on track to win promotion to the top-flight for the first time since they were relegated in 1979.

In Spain, Nayef Aguerd missed Real Sociedad’s 4-0 humbling at Barcelona through suspension. Sociedad did not have a single goal attempt and now sit ninth in the La Liga table, four points outside the European qualification places.
