Kodua

Loan Watch: Kodua makes Wycombe Wanderers debut

Gideon Kodua made his senior EFL debut for Wycombe Wanderers as the Chairboys’ League One fixture at Wigan Athletic ended in a dramatic defeat.

An injury to referee Adam Herczeg early in the second half led to a 20-minute delay while a qualified official was sourced from the crowd to deputise for fourth official Steven Rushton, who himself took over as referee.

With the game still goalless, Kodua was introduced as a substitute in the first of 23 minutes of added time, when he replaced former West Ham United Academy player Kieran Sadlier and joined fellow Irons loanee Freddie Potts on the pitch.

However, it was Wigan who snatched a late, late winner when Charlie Hughes scored in the 20th minute of added time, meaning Kodua’s senior debut ended in defeat.

Wycombe now sit 17th in the League One table, four points above Reading in the fourth and final relegation place.

Appiah-Forson

Elsewhere on Tuesday evening, Keenan Appiah-Forson completed the full 90 minutes for Dagenham & Redbridge as the east London side snatched a dramatic late victory of their own.

Inih Effiong was the Daggers’ hero, scoring in the sixth minute of added time to secure a 2-1 win over Dorking Wanderers in the National League.

Centre-forward Effiong had put the hosts in front at Chigwell Construction Stadium just past the hour-mark, before Josh Taylor’s 94th-minute goal appeared to have denied them all three points.

However, Effiong popped up two minutes later to secure a vital victory and send Dagenham above Dorking and up to 15th in the table, six points above Woking in the fourth and final relegation place.

West Ham can also confirm that defender Billy Bates has departed the Club by mutual consent and signed for Isthmian League side Cheshunt, where he started his career as a schoolboy.

The Club would like to thank Billy for his hard work and commitment during his three-and-a-half seasons at the Academy of Football and wish him all the best for his future career.
