A hatful of West Ham United loanees were in action, albeit with mixed success…
Flynn Downes picked up a crucial assist as Southampton beat Hull City 2-1 to go four games unbeaten in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon.
After the midfielder broke free down the right, Downes picked out an inch-perfect cross in stoppage time to see Ryan Fraser strike a dramatic winner from inside the area.
The Saints had earlier taken the lead through Will Smallbone but needed Fraser’s winner after Liam Delap left the game tied by the break.
Southampton now sit fifth in the EFL Championship table, with 20 points from their first 12 league games.
Meanwhile, Archie Woods was another Hammer to see a win, as he featured for the final 18 minutes of Dartford’s 2-0 win over Havant & Waterlooville.
Dartford’s Joash Nembhard struck a brace as the hosts moved into the top half of the National League south table, with five wins from 13 games.
Elsewhere, Freddie Potts would also see a positive result as EFL League One side Wycombe Wanderers secured a 2-2 draw against Peterborough.
An own-goal from Ephron Mason-Clark would steal a point after goals from Peterbrough’s Joel Randall and Mason-Clark had overturned Brandon Hanlan’s opener for Wycombe.
Wycombe now sit eight in the EFL League One table, with six wins and two draws from their first 12 league matches.
Finally, there were defeats for two Hammers goalkeepers as Nathan Trott’s Vejle FC were beaten 2-1 by FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga, while Mason Terry and Concord Rangers lost 3-1 to Chatham Town in the Isthmian Premier.
Keenan Appiah-Forson of Dagenham & Redbridge, Krizstian Hegyi of Stevenage, and Kamarai Swyer of Crawley Town did not feature across the weekend.
