Loan Watch | Big win for Marshall, debut for Dolaghan

West Ham United’s on-loan players were involved in a busy weekend of action at home and abroad. Here is how they fared…

George Earthy and Bristol City were denied a big EFL Championship win at Cardiff City when Yousef Salech scored a 90th-minute equaliser for the Bluebirds in South Wales.

The Robins looked on course to close the gap on the Play-Off places when Jason Knight opened the scoring on the hour but, after Earthy had been introduced eight minutes from the end, Cardiff spoiled their day.

Fellow midfielder Freddie Potts missed Portsmouth’s 2-0 win at Oxford United. In his absence, Pompey scored a victory that means they are now 18th and seven points clear of the bottom three.

In EFL League One, striker Callum Marshall started as Huddersfield Town scored an important 2-1 victory at rivals Barnsley.

The Northern Ireland international saw Josh Koroma and Ben Wiles hit the net in the space of three second-half minutes before being replaced with six minutes to play. Huddersfield’s win keeps them firmly in the Play-Off mix in fifth place.

They are looking up at second-placed Wycombe Wanderers, however, for whom Gideon Kodua played as a second-half substitute in the Chairboys’ 1-1 draw at Crawley Town.

Will Swan scored early on for Crawley before Daniel Udoh levelled midway through the first half. Neither side could find the net again, meaning Wycombe are now nine points behind leaders Birmingham City and two ahead of Wrexham in third.

In EFL League Two, midfielder Patrick Kelly was introduced nine minutes after half-time for Doncaster Rovers with the South Yorkshire side trailing 2-0 at home to Grimsby Town.

Doncaster pulled a goal back five minutes from full-time when Rob Street found the net, but Rovers were defeated at home and now sit sixth in the table, in the Play-Off places.

Michael Forbes was not involved as Colchester United ground out a goalless draw at Carlisle United.

In the National League, striker Brad Dolaghan made his Aldershot Town debut as a second-half substitute in the Shots’ 2-0 defeat at Eastleigh.

Jai Semenyo and Tyrese Shade scored for the home team before Dolaghan was introduced by Tommy Widdrington with 25 minutes to play. Aldershot’s defeat means they sit 19th in the table, just a point above Fylde in the third relegation spot.

Talking of Fylde, right-back Regan Clayton started for Dagenham & Redbridge in their 1-1 draw on the Lancashire coast.

Rafiq Khaleel scored the Daggers’ goal on 37 minutes before Will Hugill equalised for Fylde midway through the second half to ensure a share of the spoils. Dagenham are now 17th, five points above their opponents.

Junior Robinson was not involved in Sutton United’s goalless draw at Oldham Athletic.

Goalkeeper Mason Terry and AFC Hornchurch made the long journey to Devon to take on National League South title-chasers Torquay United, and came home empty-handed from a 2-1 defeat.

Finley Craske put the Gulls ahead on 12 minutes before Matthew Carson beat Terry six minutes before half-time. The Urchins got one back two minutes from full-time through Angelo Balanta, but second-placed Torquay held on to win. Hornchurch are 16th in the 24-team table, nine points above the relegation zone.

Krisztián Hegyi was beaten by a 95th-minute goal by Puskás Akadémia’s Jakub Plšek as Debrecen were beaten in NB I for the first time since the Hungary international goalkeeper joined in January.

Debrecen looked on course to upset league leaders Puskás Akadémia when Botond Vajda gave the hosts a half-time lead, only for Hungary international midfielder Zsolt Nagy to level from the penalty spot, then Czech Plšek broke home hearts deep in added time. Debrecen are now eleventh in the 12-team NB I table.

Nayef Aguerd and Real Sociedad played at Real Betis on Sunday evening and lost 3-0. Aguerd also lost his centre-back partner Igor Zubeldia to a red card on 20 minutes, before Antony's volley and two goals from Marc Roca ended Sociedad's hopes of holding out with ten men. They sit eleventh in La Liga.

Kurt Zouma did not feature in Al-Orobah’s 2-0 win over Al Kholood in the Saudi Pro League on Friday, nor did Mohamadou Kanté in Paris FC’s 1-0 defeat at fellow promotion-chasers Dunkerque in France’s Ligue 2.

Maxwel Cornet and Genoa host Venezia in Italy’s Serie A on Monday evening, knowing a victory would take them above Torino into eleventh place.
