Liverpool v West Ham United women's team
Barclays Women's Super League, Totally Wicked Stadium, Sunday 2 February 2025, 2pm GMT
Familiar opposition awaits West Ham United women’s team on Sunday, with the Hammers set to face Liverpool for the second time in five days.
This time, the two teams will be going head to head in Merseyside as Rehanne Skinner’s outfit turn their attention back to their journey in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Putting Wednesday night’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup defeat behind them and hoping to use it as motivation to pick up three points at the weekend, the Hammers will look to build on their last league outing, which saw them ease past Everton at Chigwell Construction Stadium thanks to first-half goals from Shekiera Martinez and Viviane Asseyi.
The Irons sit only a point and a place below Matt Beard’s side in the standings, though the Reds will be hoping to respond from their 2-1 loss at Leicester City last Sunday.
As Katrina Gorry said in her post-match interview in midweek, her team will be searching for a ‘bit of revenge, and to come out stronger’ at the weekend.

Opposition…
Liverpool were not involved in any deadline-day deals, with Matt Beard having already strengthened his side with the loan signings of Sam Kerr from FC Bayern Munich and Julia Bartel from Chelsea.
The Reds have won three of their 12 WSL matches this term, picking up three points against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion. Their 2-1 victory against the Seagulls was their first of 2025, as a Jorelyn Carabalí own-goal helped Beard's side record their first home win of the campaign.
Liverpool enjoyed a fine 2023/24 campaign in the WSL, finishing fourth, ahead of local rivals Manchester United, after losing just five of their 22 league matches.
Although there was disappointment in the domestic cup competitions, with Leicester City proving too strong in the Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals and the Reds crashing out of the Women’s League Cup at the group stage, there was a general feeling of pride at what was achieved last term under Beard's tutelage.
The Liverpool manager has been coaching for over 15 years, and it would be fair to say he has since developed into one of the most respected and experienced bosses around.
Beard won the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division title with Millwall in 2009, led Chelsea to the FA Women’s Cup final in 2012, and then won back-to-back Women’s Super League titles and was named FA WSL Manager of the Year in 2013 and 2014 during his first spell at Liverpool.
After a year in America with Boston Breakers, he joined West Ham United in 2018 and duly led the newly professional Hammers to the FA Women’s Cup final at Wembley Stadium in his first season.
After a short spell at Bristol City, the Roehampton-born Beard returned to Liverpool in summer 2021 and immediately guided the Reds to the FA Women's Championship title, before achieving seventh and fourth-place Women’s Super League finishes, adding a third FA WSL Manager of the Year award last season.
Previous Meetings…
The women's team were last victorious away at Liverpool in January 2023, when Dagný Brynjarsdóttir's 87th-minute goal clinched a late 1-0 win in the Women's League Cup.
Meanwhile, Japan international Riko Ueki has enjoyed a prolific run in front of goal against the Reds, finding the back of the net in three of the last four meetings between the two teams.
