Mohammed Kudus has been named in Ghana’s 27-man squad for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
West Ham United’s outstanding winger has been rewarded for his superb form with a place in former Hammer Chris Hughton’s squad for the finals, which kick-off in Ivory Coast on Saturday 13 January.
Kudus has enjoyed a brilliant 2023/24 season to date, scoring ten goals in 24 appearances in Claret and Blue, helping his team rise to sixth in the Premier League table and reach the UEFA Europa League round of 16.
The 22-year-old, who joined from Dutch club Ajax in late August 2023, is also an integral member of Hughton’s Black Stars, having earned 30 caps and scored nine goals for his country since debuting in 2019.
He was part of Ghana’s squad at both the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and 2022 FIFA World Cup finals.
After being eliminated at the group stage in 2021, Ghana will hope to progress to the knockout rounds this time around from a Group B that also includes Cape Verde, 2021 runners-up Egypt and Mozambique.
Ghana kick-off their challenge by taking on Cape Verde at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan on Sunday 14 January at 2pm GMT.
Matchday two will see them tackle Egypt at the same venue on Thursday 18 January at 8pm GMT, before the group stage closes with a clash with Mozambique at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé on Monday 22 January at 8pm GMT.
The final will take place at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé on Sunday 11 February at 8pm GMT.
Fans in the UK and around the world will be able to follow AFCON on CAF’s YouTube channel for free and on Sky Sports via subscription.
Prior to the tournament, Ghana will host Namibia in a warm-up match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Monday 8 January at 8pm GMT.
