Mohammed Kudus said the nature of West Ham United's 4-2 Premier League win over Brentford 'showed how hungry' the Hammers were to return to winning ways.
The Irons had not won any of their six top-flight matches in 2024 going into Monday's derby with the Bees, but a fast start and four sensational goals - three of them scored by hat-trick hero Jarrod Bowen and the other a long-range special from Emerson - ended that unwanted run in style.
Kudus was to the fore too, giving Brentford left-back Sergio Reguilón a torrid time all evening, having half-a-dozen shots and setting up Bowen's hat-trick goal midway through the second half.
Victory took West Ham back up two places to eighth ahead of a trip to Everton and home games with Burnley and Aston Villa at the start of March.
“We needed it,” the No14 explained. “The past games have been very difficult, but it was good to get the reaction and the win in front of the fans. We keep building on it and focus on the next game.
“I think [the two goals in seven minutes] showed how hungry we as players are for the goals because that is what we are supposed to do.
“I’m not surprised [about Jarrod Bowen’s hat-trick], more is coming.
“I think we wanted it more and you could see that from the start of the game as we got the goals quickly and there was an energy and determination of how much we wanted to win today. It was good to get the three points.”
