Paul Konchesky said that he was pleased his side were able to pick up a point in the Barclays Women’s Super League against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Hammers played their part in a competitive 0-0 draw at Chigwell Construction Stadium as they produced a hard-working performance to get their first point on the board since early February.
Both sides had some good chances, particularly in the first half where Dagný Brynjarsdóttir went close after heading over from close range, whilst Yana Daniels fired wide for the Reds in their best chance of the game.
Konchesky’s team kept their shape well and limited Liverpool to half chances right until the last minute, when Katie Stengel seized a half yard and looked as though she would open the scoring and cause heartbreak – but Grace Fisk was quickly across.
The home side had to work hard for the point and worked hard until the very end, and Konchesky was pleased that his side were able to bring an end to poor run of form and get an important point.
It was good to stop the rot.
There are positives, another clean sheet for the team as a whole is one of those, and we’ve gained a point rather than three lost. We wanted to get three, but we didn’t lose the game - we’ve stopped the goals and we’ve stopped momentum of not winning matches.
A point and a clean sheet will give the players confidence.
We won't shy away from saying we haven’t won in the league this calendar year, and obviously we still haven’t, but we need to pick points up along the road, especially at home.
We needed to gain points and that’s another one gained today - against a tough Liverpool team. We knew it was going to be tough and we had to work hard to get it, but I’m proud of the team.
There are definitely positives to take into the international break.
The shape was really good, and I have to say the togetherness from everyone on the pitch for us, I think you can see that the team are together. We don’t give in, we play for 90 minutes. They are all massive positives and it gives us something now going into the break.
The team gave everything today.
Players were making blocks right up until the end. That ruthlessness is what I asked for, in our box especially, they showed that today.
Maybe we could have nicked one or two from a set play, and I know there were murmurs at the end about a penalty too. We need to create more chances, but we have got positives to build on and these two weeks now are really important to us.
It’s good to have these positives heading into the break.
I don’t see the team now for another two weeks, when you a defeat before the international break it lingers, it’s not nice because you lose a load of players, and you don’t see them for two weeks.
The players that are here are going to work and the players that go to the internationals will hopefully come back all fit and ready to go for Manchester City.
