Johnson: We are delighted by our start to U21 Euros

Ahead of England U21s' fixture with Germany on Wednesday afternoon, Ben Johnson speaks on the Young Lions' impressive start to this summer's tournament and his aims to add more silverware following a UEFA Europa Conference League triumph earlier this month.

It has been a good start to the competition, with us obviously winning our first two games against the Czech Republic and Israel.

The U21s have struggled in recent competitions, so to win the Group with one game to spare is a huge achievement for everyone involved. We also have the chance to knock Germany out in the next game, which is exciting.

Being involved at this tournament is a huge privilege. To represent England at any level is a huge achievement and to be selected to be in the squad from players across the country is a massive thing for me. There is a lot of talent to pick from!

Clearly, there are a lot of players that could have been called up so to be here brings me a lot of confidence in my own game, but being part of this extremely talented group is a massive privilege as well.

Of course we want to win something and know there is a lot still to be done. And having won my first bit of silverware with West Ham earlier this month I have plenty of motivation to want more and win more.

I hope to be able to continue that feat and come back to West Ham with another trophy this time on the international stage.

It was not the best season for me personally, but I have got more of a chance to show what I can do for England U21s. I am hoping to get some more minutes under my belt, get back to my best, and it is something I am looking forward to doing with England over the next couple of weeks.
