Jarrod Bowen has been crowned Hammer of the Year for 2023/24 by West Ham United supporters!
The Claret and Blue Army overwhelmingly voted the England forward as their player of the season after a goal-laden campaign that has seen him write his name into the history books by smashing a host of personal and Club records.
A clinical header at home to Liverpool late last month saw Bowen become the first Irons player to break the 20-goal barrier since Marlon Harewood 19 years ago, and equal Paolo Di Canio’s tally of 16 in a single Premier League season.
Notching a career-first hat-trick against Brentford in February, netting in March’s 5-0 thrashing of SC Freiburg and contributing a goal to December’s 2-1 win at Tottenham are among the moments that have helped the 27-year-old earn the coveted trophy previously won by the likes of Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst and Mark Noble.
Tens of thousands of votes were cast by fans, with Bowen finishing first ahead of Mohammed Kudus in second and Edson Álvarez in third, both of whom have impressed during their respective first terms in east London.
Bowen, who previously won the 2021/22 Players’ Player of the Year award, explained how much this latest honour means to him after being presented with his prize following Saturday’s Premier League fixture with Luton Town at London Stadium.
Initially launched in 1958 by the West Ham United Supporters' Club, the original Hammer of the Year award trophy was also presented to Bowen by Supporters' Club Chairman Andy Read.
“I’m hugely proud to win the Hammer of the Year award,” said our No20, who has scored 20 goals and registered ten assists across all competitions. “You only have to look at the list of people who have won it before to understand how special it is.
“It’s an amazing feeling to have been recognised by the people who cheer us on in every game, so I have to say a massive thank you to the fans. They’ve been brilliant throughout my four-and-a-half years here, and they’ve certainly helped me get to where I am today.
“I feel like I’ve had a good year, and I think I’ve shown I can be effective in a variety of positions up front. I’ve missed some games through injury, but there have been lots of standout moments, and I’ll never get bored of scoring goals!
“I’ve loved my time at West Ham so far, and I’m really excited about what I can achieve here going forward. Let’s hope we can finish off this season strongly next week, and then push on into next year.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Jarrod on being crowned Hammer of the Year for 2023/24.
