Andy Irving has been named in the senior Scotland men’s national team squad for the first time.
The West Ham United midfielder is in former Hammers assistant manager Steve Clarke’s 23-man selection for UEFA Nations League A Group 1 ties with Croatia and Portugal to be played during the October international break.
The 24-year-old could make his debut at the Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb, where Scotland take on Croatia on Saturday 12 October at 6pm local time (5pm BST).
The Tartan Army then return home to host Portugal at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Tuesday 15 October at 7.45pm BST.
Irving was first capped by Scotland at U14 level and has since represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 levels. He last represented his country in a 7-0 UEFA European U21 Championship qualifying win in San Marino in October 2020.
Now, having made his full and Premier League debuts for West Ham this season, the Edinburgh-born former Heart of Midlothian player is set to become a senior international.
Should he feature, Irving would become the Hammers’ seventh senior Scotland men’s international, following John Dick, Ray Stewart, Frank McAvennie, Christian Dailly, Don Hutchison and Robert Snodgrass.
Scotland head into matchdays three and four hoping to score their first points of the 2024/25 Nations League campaign, having lost narrowly in Portugal (1-2) and at home to Poland (2-3) in their opening two Group A1 ties.
