A true West Ham United legend is the latest guest on the official Club podcast – Iron Cast – as Paolo Di Canio joins the show for our newest episode!

With 50 goals and 16 assists for the Hammers in 139 appearances, Italian icon Di Canio endeared himself to the Claret and Blue Army with his passion and performances over four-and-a-half years in east London.

Sitting down with hosts Chris Scull and James Collins, Di Canio goes in-depth on his career with West Ham, reflecting on his move to the team in 1999 and some of his most memorable moments for the Irons.

The Italian passionately describes his unique connection with both the Club and the supporters, calling West Ham as his ‘second family’ and revealing both of his daughters and his grandson are all ardent Hammers fans.

The 55-year-old offers a sincere assessment of his time with West Ham, calling it the best period of his football career and life, while also talking about his relationship with manager Harry Redknapp and his teammates.

Di Canio then opens up on some of his most memorable moments in Claret and Blue, including famously halting a game against Everton rather than scoring what surely would have been a winning goal when Toffees goalkeeper Paul Gerrard had got injured, and his West Ham teammates’ reaction to his decision.

Of course, no conversation with the famous No10 would be complete without an in-depth discussion about his world-famous scissor-kick finish in the win over Wimbledon in March 2000, with Di Canio admitting practising such creative attempts in training with the likes of Joe Cole and Trevor Sinclair.

The forward also talks about his ‘crazy, fantastic’ teammates and sharing a dressing room with the likes of Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, Nigel Winterburn, John Moncur, Ian Wright and many more.

The podcast ends with Di Canio revealing his celebrations back home in Italy after West Ham United’s incredible UEFA Europa Conference League success back in June.

This week’s Iron Cast is an episode not to be missed for Hammers fans all across the world!
