Indeed, there is plenty to talk about, with 53 matches in all competitions yielding a third top-nine finish in four years, as well as runs to the quarter-finals of both the UEFA Europa League and the EFL Cup.
Seven players made their Hammers debuts during the 287-day period between the first and last days of term, Jarrod Bowen hit the headlines for equalling Paolo Di Canio’s Club record for Premier League goals in a single season (16), while his 20 strikes in all competitions helped him become the first Irons player to tally 30 direct goal involvements since John Hartson in 1997/98.
One of West Ham’s four senior summer signings, Mohammed Kudus repeatedly caught the eye with a string of quality goals that lit up fixtures on both domestic and continental fronts, including against SC Freiburg at London Stadium, and on the final day away at Manchester City.
That Freiburg thrashing in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 will certainly live long in the memory, as well as other unforgettable occasions such as at home to Bayer Leverkusen, and away at Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in December.
