Shekiera Martinez helped Germany U23s lift the WU23 European competition trophy as her side defeated Norway U23s 6-5 on penalties in Murcia, Spain on Monday.
Following a goalless draw in normal time, Hammers forward Martinez, who played all of the final, stepped up from 12 yards after Norway dispatched their first spot-kick. The 23-year-old, who netted two goals against Chelsea just over a week ago, remained unfazed as she calmly slotted the ball into the top-right corner.
Both teams went on to score their next four penalties before Germany goalkeeper Laura Dick came up trumps with a brilliant save to claw away Emilie Østerås’ effort.
That left Germany substitute Katharina Piljić with the chance to clinch the trophy for her side and she made no mistake, firing the ball low and hard beyond the dive of Sunniva Skoglund.
