West Ham United women’s team defender Anouk Denton received another cap for England U23s as she started their WU23 European competition clash against Sweden U23s at Doncaster Rovers’ Eco-Power Stadium tonight.
The left-back, again, played the full match for Emma Coates’ side, adding to the 90 minutes she received when holding Norway U23s to a goalless draw last week.
However, the Young Lionesses failed to build on the point they picked up on Thursday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat in south Yorkshire, despite taking the lead through Southampton’s Lucia Kendall after just three minutes.
Parity was restored midway through the first half as Sofia Reidy found the back of the net and Wilma Leidhammar gave Sweden the upper hand nine minutes after the restart.
The Young Lionesses were gifted a chance to equalise deep into second-half stoppage time, but Katie Robinson’s penalty was saved after Lenna Gunning-Williams was brought down in the box.
