West Ham United youngster Anouk Denton kicked-off a busy international break for the women’s team by starting England U23s’ 1-1 draw with the Netherlands.
The 21-year-old defender played as a left-back as the Young Lionesses were denied a victory in their Women’s U23 Euro League tie, which was played in the Dutch village of Escharen on Thursday evening.
Denton and her teammates got the better of their opponents for most of the game, particularly dominating the first half and taking the lead through Manchester City’s Laura Blindkilde Brown.
The Hammers youngster was to the fore, creating a shooting chance for Brighton & Hove Albion teenager Michelle Agyemang after a superb run from the back and pass through to the forward moments before Blindkilde Brown’s opening goal.
But having seemingly survived second-half pressure from their hosts, Fenna Kalma struck a free-kick from just outside the box into the net with the last kick of the match to grab a share of the spoils for the Netherlands.
Denton and her compatriots will hope to return to winning ways when they host Portugal at Shrewsbury Town in the same competition on Tuesday 29 October.
On Friday, Princess Ademiluyi, who is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic in the Women’s Championship, made a superb England U19s debut in a 3-1 win over the Netherlands at the Algarve Cup in Portugal.
The teenager provided two assists, setting up Crystal Palace’s Lexi Potter for England’s second goal and Bristol City’s Maddy Earl for their third. Earl had earlier opened the scoring, too.
England take on Norway in the Algarve Cup on Monday 28 October before turning their attention to round one of qualification for next summer’s 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, which is taking place in Poland in June 2025. The first qualification phase will also be staged in Poland in November, with the WU19s set to face the hosts Poland, Italy and Turkey.
