West Ham United’s Edson Álvarez and Mexico overcame a two-goal, first-leg deficit to book their spot in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals with a 4-0 win over Honduras at Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca.
Fulham attacker Raúl Jiménez ignited El Tri’s comeback as he stooped to head home Jesús Orozco's cross three minutes before half-time, halving the deficit.
Jiménez then turned provider as he headed Alexis Vega's corner kick across the goal mouth and Henry Martin levelled the aggregate score on 72 minutes.
Jorge Sánchez completed the turnaround 13 minutes later when he collected the ball inside the box and fired high over Honduras goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar from seven yards, before Martin notched his second from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time to seal the victory.
Mexico will face Canada on 20 March at the SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California, in the semi-finals, with the winner set to face either three-time champions the United States or Panama on 23 March. The losers will face off earlier that same day in the third-place play-off match.
Elsewhere, Lucas Paquetá was sent on as a late substitute as Brazil were held to a 1-1 home draw against Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.
With both sides vying to assert themselves after a closely contested opening half, Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde opened the scoring in the 55th minute when he sent a superb curling effort into the far bottom corner, only for Gerson to restore parity for the hosts seven minutes later with a terrific volley.
Paquetá entered the action with four minutes left, but was unable to help his side to a late victory.
Five-time World Cup winners Brazil are fifth in the CONMEBOL standings on 18 points, one point behind Colombia and Ecuador.
The top six will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
