Saïd Benrahma in action for Algeria

International Round-Up: Draw for Benrahma, late heartbreak for Dinos

Monday night's international action brought a mixed bag of results for the West Ham United players in action.

Saïd Benrahma started for Algeria in their international friendly against fellow north African nation Egypt in Abu Dhabi.

Egypt were hampered by a red card for defender Mohamed Hany after just 26 minutes, but they regrouped and forced the game's opening goal in the second half through Hamdy Fathy.

Algeria would not be denied though and Islam Slimani salvaged a draw for the Desert Warriors, scoring in injury time to ensure the final scoreline of 1-1.

Benrahma now has 25 caps for his country, for whom attention now turns to the start of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next month.

Meanwhile, there was late heartbreak for Dinos Mavropanos and Greece, who were beaten 1-0 by the Netherlands by Virgil van Dijk's stoppage time penalty.

Greece looked set for an important point in the qualifying contest for UEFA Euro 2024, only for the visitors to snatch a last-gasp victory in Athens.

The result means the Netherlands move above Greece and into second in Group B, level on points, although Greece have now played a game more.

Mavropanos' team face France in their final qualifier next month and will need results elsewhere to go their way if they are to avoid the play-offs.
