West Ham United women’s team produced a hardworking performance in their opening Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the 2023/24 season, but were ultimately beaten 2-0 by Manchester City.
In what was Rehanne Skinner’s first competitive game in charge of the Club, the Irons battled hard against the Citizens at Chigwell Construction Stadium, but were ultimately undone by two pieces of quality from Lauren Hemp and Jill Roord just after half time.
Mackenzie Arnold was on hand to deny Chloe Kelly from the spot, and with Leila Ouahabi seeing red after a challenge on Emma Harries, the Irons went for it in the closing stages.
They couldn’t find a way back into the game though, and had to settle for defeat.
