Harries: We're taking things game by game

Emma Harries says that West Ham United women’s team are looking forward to returning to Barclays Women’s Super League action on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers host Bristol City at Chigwell Construction Stadium in their fifth league fixture of the 2023/24 season, looking to build on the four points they have already accumulated so far.

Harries has been involved in all five of the team’s fixtures so far this season, and scored her first West Ham United goal against Charlton Athletic in a 2-1 win in the Continental Tyres League Cup last month.

The young forward featured for England U23s during the international break, and is now ready and raring to go ahead of the resumption of WSL action. Indeed, speaking to whufc.com ahead of the match against the Robins, Harries spoke about how happy she is with how things are going at the Club, having joined the Hammers this summer from Reading…

We’re in a really good place heading into Sunday’s game

We’ve had a really short turnaround from those returning from the international break, but we had two good sessions as a group on Friday and Saturday where we were able to work on a lot.

The intensity of the training sessions was really good too and there’s a real buzz amongst the squad about Sunday’s game. It’s a game we believe we can get points from, and we want to take all the positives that we’ve had in the opening five matches into this one.

For us, it’s about taking things game by game

Every team will pose different questions for us, and we have to be ready for that. We’re a really close-knit group that’s all on the same page, heading in the right direction.

We’re familiar with Bristol City have played against them in pre-season. Obviously, we’ve done our analysis and watched them throughout the season so far in terms of personnel and shape. For us, it’s about focusing on what we can control and how we can play – we want to make sure we preform and come away with the three points.

This is the happiest I’ve been in my football career

I have to admit, it was strange moving to a different club having spent all my time with Reading. However, it was the perfect time for me to move, and I really feel as though I’m developing on and off the pitch. Hopefully I can continue developing and contribute more throughout the season.

We have a fantastic group of people here, players and staff. We all have to continue to work hard and hopefully we will be able to achieve things together.
