The Irons were paired with the Robins in Sunday afternoon's draw, as teams from the Premier League and EFL Championship enter the fray.
David Moyes' men will host the Championship side on the weekend of 6 January.
Bristol City, managed by one time Hammers U21s lead coach Liam Manning, are currently 13th in the Championship table heading into their meeting with Norwich City on Sunday.
The Irons last faced the Ashton Gate side in the 2013/14 campaign, when Diafra Sahko's header earned us a 1-0 FA Cup fourth round victory in the West Country.
West Ham are undefeated in their last eleven meetings with the Robins, dating back to 1978.
