West Ham United have celebrated International Day of Sign Languages today (Saturday 23 September) by teaching Hammers fans three of our most famous chants in British Sign Language (BSL).
To educate supporters, TNT Sports presenters Damaris Cooke and Rolf Choutan came to London Stadium to celebrate the day.
Damaris and Rolf recently joined TNT Sports as part of an initiative to showcase and encourage BSL.
The duo ran through three chants that are known by all Hammers fans:
Firstly: “Come on you Irons”
Secondly: “I’m forever blowing bubbles”
Thirdly: “West Ham are massive everywhere we go”
Damaris and Rolf signed off by saying: “Happy International Day of Sign Languages. Come on you Irons!”
As a Club, West Ham United are now part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme, which enables people with non-visible disabilities to access the specific support they need.
As part of this BSL staff are available to support spectators at London Stadium. Both the matchday supporter liaison team and the disabled supporter assistance team have staff members who are trained in BSL Level One to provide additional support for those that are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
