Guido Rodríguez | Career in Pictures

Following the confirmation of his arrival at West Ham United, we take a photographic journey through Guido Rodríguez’s glittering career in football so far.

Born in Sáenz Peña, Buenos Aires, the 30-year-old midfielder began his career at South American giants River Plate, and made his senior debut for the club in October 2014, in a Copa Argentina clash against Rosario Central.

After scoring one goal in 18 appearances for Los Millonarios, and completing a productive loan spell at Defensa y Justicia, Rodríguez joined Mexican side Club Tijuana in the summer of 2016, for whom he netted on his second appearance against Puebla in the Liga MX.

A series of strong showings on the domestic scene duly earned him international recognition, and in June 2017 he won his first Argentina cap in a narrow friendly victory against bitter rivals Brazil.

The following month, Rodríguez swapped Tijuana for Mexican top-flight rivals Club América, where he scored 12 goals in 123 appearances over three years, and picked up league and cup winner’s medals.

A switch to La Liga outfit Real Betis in early 2020 kick-started four-and-a-half seasons in Spain, where he lifted the Copa del Rey title under former West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini in April 2022, completing the full 120 minutes of the penalty-shootout win over Valencia in the showpiece.

2022 was also hugely significant for Rodríguez on the international front, as he played his part in Argentina’s Finalissima and FIFA World Cup triumphs, a year after making six appearances en route to Copa América success.

The 30-cap star picked up a second Copa América winner’s medal last month, having made the last of 173 appearances for Betis at the end of 2023/24, contributing to a seventh-place finish in the standings.
