West Ham United defeated Fulham in a five-goal thriller to give Graham Potter a 3-2 victory in his first home game as Hammers Head Coach.
Carlos Soler accepted a real gift from the Cottagers to give us the lead on 31 minutes, pouncing on a loose pass across goal from Andreas Pereira to produce a composed, clinical finish and net his first goal since his summer loan move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Then, barely two minutes later, Mohammed Kudus burst away and fed Soler in the left channel of the penalty area. He picked out Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the far post, and his cut-back was tucked away by Tomáš Souček.
Fulham had enjoyed the better of the first half-hour, and they got themselves back into the contest early in the second half as Alex Iwobi's cross from the left, intended for Raúl Jiménez, evaded the Mexican's touch and left Łukasz Fabiański helpless in the home goal.
But West Ham accepted another late Christmas present from their visitors midway through the second half to restore the two-goal lead. This time goalkeeper Bernd Leno, under pressure from Danny Ings, passed straight to Lucas Paquetá, who gratefully knocked into the net.
That wasn't the last of the drama though as Fulham set up a nervy finale when Iwobi scored from another cross which missed everybody in the middle 12 minutes from the end.
Potter's men held on to get his reign in east London off to a winning start ahead of another derby duel with Crystal Palace at the weekend.
