Eight members of the NYC Hammers Official Supporters’ Club made the memorable trip from the US city of New York to watch their beloved Irons secure back-to-back wins away at Arsenal and at home to Leicester City in February.
Here, Joint-Chair Sean Fewell tells us everything there is to know about the group…
Can you talk us through the origins of the NYC Hammers?
I’ve supported the Club since the 1980s. I always wanted to follow a London team rich in tradition, and there was only one answer: West Ham United.
The group first came about when I walked into a bar in New York and met a couple of Hammers who were over from London on their stag do, and it grew from there. We were established in 2001 - initially, we took over a little corner of a pub, but now we’ve taken over the whole thing!

How many members do you have, and how do you follow the Irons on a matchday?
I would say there’s an average of about 45-50 people when we meet up, but on a big matchday, several hundred show up.
We all go to Smithfield Hall in New York City, which is beside Madison Square Garden. It’s our home away from home.
We’ve met a lot of British people who have come into our pub, and we meet up with them when we come back here to the UK to watch the best Club in the world.
What’s been the most memorable moment with your Official Supporters’ Club?
The [UEFA Europa] Conference League final. Some of us were in Prague, while some of us were in New York City. The whole place was packed with nothing but West Ham supporters.

The Supporters’ Club celebrates its 25th anniversary next year. Do you have anything special planned?
We’re at the start of planning something. We will probably pick a weekend at some point and come over for a game and have a party. To still be going after 25 years is incredible.
How can other supporters join the NYC Hammers?
Just show up, and you will be welcomed. People know instantly that they are welcome and come back so many times, and we cherish that. You can also find out more about us by clicking HERE or following us on X, Instagram and Facebook.
