Niclas Füllkrug celebrates his goal for Germany against Hungary

Füllkrug scores in Germany romp

Niclas Füllkrug was on the scoresheet as Germany kicked-off their UEFA Nations League campaign in style against Hungary on Saturday.

The West Ham United striker scored Die Mannschaft's opening goal in a 5-0 romp in Düsseldorf.

Füllkrug struck with 27 minutes on the clock, finishing a Jamal Musiala assist to notch his 14th international goal in just 22 caps for his country.

The lead still stood at one at the break, but Germany ran away with it in the second half, as Musiala got on the scoresheet himself, before further goals by Florian Wirtz, Aleksandar Pavlović and Kai Havertz set the seal on a one-sided victory.

Füllkrug played an hour of the Group A3 win and will now turn his attention to Tuesday's meeting with the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Konstantinos Mavropanos' Greece also began their Nations League programme with a win, downing Finland 3-0 in a Group B2 fixture in Athens.

Two first half goals - Fotis Ioannis' opener, followed by a Benjamin Källman own goal - had Greece in command be the break.

A second goal by Panathinaikos forward Ioannis wrapped up the win for Greece, whom Mavropanos helped to a welcome clean sheet.

His team will now get set for a meeting with Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday.

Jarrod Bowen shoots for goal for England against Republic of Ireland

In the same Nations League group, Jarrod Bowen was a second half substitute in England's 2-0 victory against Republic of Ireland.

Bowen came on for his eleventh cap with six minutes left to play in Dublin with England already long 2-0 up.

Declan Rice and Jack Grealish scored the goals to cap a dominant opening period in Lee Carsley's first game in charge of the Three Lions - and that was how the scoring remained at 90 minutes.

England return to action at Wembley on Tuesday, when they take on Finland.

Czech Republic and Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal will be hoping to bounce back in midweek, after their Group B1 campaign began with a 4-1 away defeat to Georgia.

The Hammers duo started in Tbilisi, but were unable to prevent their side from falling to defeat.

They head home to play Ukraine in Prague in their second group fixture on Tuesday.
