1. A landmark night for Jarrod
Jarrod Bowen hit not one, but two landmarks in Thursday night’s Premier League win at Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham United’s No20 scored for the seventh consecutive away match to start a new season, setting a new Premier League record, although it is one which may not be officially recognised as he missed the Hammers’ win at Burnley through injury.
Regardless of that, Bowen can be rightly proud of his superb scoring record on the road this term, which has helped the Hammers secure 13 points from their first eight away matches – one more than they collected in the whole of last season.
The 26-year-old also reached 50 goals for the Club in all competitions, becoming the 47th player to reach that figure in Claret and Blue.
Bowen’s latest masterclass saw him score West Ham’s equaliser and help create the winner, as his pressing forced Guglielmo Vicario to push the ball into the path of James Ward-Prowse, who scored at the second attempt.
2. JWP
If there was a blade of grass at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that James Ward-Prowse did not cover, we would be surprised!
West Ham United’s tireless No7 was all over north London on Thursday evening, closing down space, making tackles, blocks and interceptions and then, with 16 minutes to play, popping up to score the Irons’ winning goal.
The England midfielder now has eight direct goal involvements in 14 Premier League appearances since joining in August, in addition to a competition-leading four assists in the UEFA Europa League.
He ranks joint-third in the most assists of any player in Europe’s top five leagues this season, with nine.
For his career, the 29-year-old now has more direct goal involvements against Spurs, ten, than he has against any other Premier League opponent.
3. The Claret and Blue Army
Despite seeing their team have less than 25% possession in the first half, and fall behind to Cristian Romero’s header, the Claret and Blue Army never stopped singing in support of West Ham United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And their backing was rewarded after half-time, as the Irons produced a stirring comeback to win 2-1 in north London.
The scenes in the away end were of sheer delight when first Jarrod Bowen equalised, then James Ward-Prowse slotted in to secure a superb victory.
Many of those celebrating have travelled over land and sea to many of the 12 away games the Irons have already played this season, and many will be at Fulham on Sunday and heading up to Liverpool for an EFL Cup quarter-final five nights before Christmas.
4. Winning habits
West Ham United have now collected 13 points from eight away matches this season, one more than David Moyes’ side collected in the whole of 2022/23.
The Hammers’ first victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since spring 2019, when we became the first visiting team to win at Spurs’ new ground, was the fourth on the road this term.
Thursday’s victory also marked the third time in the last four Premier League matches that West Ham have come from behind to win, following victories over Nottingham Forest and Burnley.
In all, Moyes’ men have won ten points from losing positions in the top-flight, while their opponents Spurs have now lost 16 points from winning positions in their own matches.
