Fornals: Claret & Blue Army can inspire us

Pablo Fornals has urged the Claret & Blue Army to play their part as West Ham United face Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium on Saturday.

The Hammers No8 netted the winner against Aston Villa and praised the role the supporters played in helping the Irons to victory in the West Midlands.

As Premier League football returns to London Stadium for the first time since a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on 31 August, David Moyes’ men seek a third straight home win over Wolves on Saturday evening.

As it stands, Wolves sit one place above the Hammers in the table but Fornals is confident the Hammers can leapfrog their opponents and grab a crucial win in east London.

“We're going to be back in our stadium,” Fornals said. “In our stadium when the crowd and the players are in the same symphony it’s very, very difficult to beat us. It's unreal to play in front of 60,000 people week in and week out. I am 100% sure with [the fans'] support and our work we're going to improve.

“I expect from us commitment because it is what we need. We're trying to make it a difficult game for our opposition. I just ask if [the fans] can be with us.”

And that has proved to be the case in the Hammers past two meetings with Wolves at London Stadium. Tomáš Souček settled last year’s meeting, while Jarrod Bowen struck a brace in a 4-0 win at London Stadium in 2020/21.

Fornals too has good memories against this Saturday’s opposition. He netted in a 3-2 win at Molineux, striking the Hammers second of the afternoon from inside the area after just 14 minutes.

It’s a result he will hope to echo on Saturday and Fornals is confident the return to winning ways can come this weekend.

“I think these are not the best performances we are having, in my case, [across the last] four seasons,” he stated. “But we have signed very, very good players, very different players and I think now is the moment to set everything and to make everything work better.”
