Grace Fisk is looking forward to West Ham United Women getting back into action this weekend, as they make the trip north to face Aston Villa at Bescot Stadium on Saturday.
After a two week break and many of the West Ham United squad jetting off to represent their respective countries, the squad were back together again on Thursday afternoon at their Chadwell Heath training base.
Fisk, who was at Chadwell Heath throughout the break found the time that she had in smaller groups valuable and is looking forward to being back out on the pitch this weekend.
“The international break has been good,” Fisk told whufc.com.
“We have a lot of international players in the squad, so there’s not been many of the girls that have been here at Chadwell.
“We’ve been able to focus on the little bits and pieces over the last week, smaller sessions with smaller drills, which is nice for a change.
“We’ve also had a little bit of time to chill having had a few days off, which meant I was able to go back home and see my family – it was nice to switch off.
“But we’re glad to have all of the girls back in the building obviously, and I think all of us are looking forward to the focus swinging back onto the league.”
After one win from their opening three games, the Hammers are after further points in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
And Fisk believes there’s more to come from this West Ham United side that have performed well in the opening three games against tough opposition.
“I think the start of the season has been good, we got the season off to a really good start with the win over Everton.
“Then we had two really tough games against Manchester United and Chelsea where I think we were, on the whole, pleased with certain aspects from each of those games, and it gave us areas in which we need to improve.
“As a squad, we’re all enjoying each other’s company and I think the players are buying into what the coaching team are looking to implement in terms of style.
“We’re building week by week and we’re looking forward to kicking on, starting against Aston Villa this weekend.”
The Villans have started the new WSL season in fine form, beating Manchester City in their opening match of the season, before dispatching Leicester City 2-0 at Villa Park.
Manager Carla Ward scooped the WSL Manager of the Month award for September, whilst former Hammer Rachel Daly picked up the Player of the Month award after firing in three league goals.
Fisk hopes that her side will be able to give Saturday’s opponents a tough game and that the West Ham come away with all three points.
“Villa have started really and I’m sure they’re going to be a really tough test for us, but last year we managed to go up there and get a really good result.
“They’re a completely different team this season, so we’ll go there with a new mindset and hope to get some more points on the board,” Fisk concluded.
Fisk and her West Ham United teammates face Aston Villa on Saturday 15 October, with the match at Bescot Stadium getting underway at 12:30pm BST.
