Filis and Harries in action for England U23s in Belgium victory

Mel Filis and Emma Harries both came off the bench to help England U23s to a dominant 3-0 victory over Belgium at Shrewsbury Town’s New Meadow Stadium.

Emma Coates' team drew 1-1 with Norway on Friday and returned to home soil for the clash against the Red Flames on Monday evening.

Chelsea striker Aggie Beever-Jones grabbed her second goal of the international break when she closed down Belgium goalkeeper Bastien, and the ball ricocheted off the forward and into the back of the net.

The Young Lionesses continued to dominate but they could not extend their lead, which was largely down to a superb performance by Bastien, who was looking to atone for her earlier error.

The second goal arrived with 72 minutes played when Keira Skeels rose highest in the penalty area, heading in a corner from Missy-Bo Kearns.

10 minutes later and the game was wrapped up. Ruby Mace played a delightful ball over the top of the Belgium back line, finding Ella Morris, who found the net with a superbly executed volley.

Filis came off the bench on 72 minutes, whilst Harries entered the field on 83 minutes, securing their first minutes of the international break in the process as England U23 made it two wins from two. Anouk Denton was an unused substitute in the victory.

Coates’ team will link back up in the October international break, when they will head to Italy on Thursday 26 October.
