Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek One hints and tips

Fantasy Premier League is back for 2024/25, and West Ham United host Aston Villa to kickstart their campaign on Saturday.

The much-loved game is a true test of your managerial skills, requiring you to recruit players within a set budget, transfer in new players before they become stars and drop them before they lose form.

With the added complications of a limit of three players from any single Premier League club, and deciding when to use your valuable Bench Boost, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Wildcard chips, topping the table is a challenge like no other.

The biggest change this season to FPL is free transfers and how many you can accumulate at one time.

Previously, it was only possible to bank two free transfers, which was fairly restrictive if you wanted to make wholesale changes to your team. However, you can now bank five transfers at a time, while also being able to keep these transfers when you play a chip such as a wildcard or free hit.

On whufc.com and our Official Programme, we’ll be giving you tips and tricks as well as Hammers to watch across the season!

Crysencio Summerville to deliver immediately!

In West Ham United’s Betway Cup victory over RC Celta de Vigo last weekend, Crysencio Summerville (6.0m) caught the eye on his debut in Claret and Blue, having come off the substitutes' bench to replace Jarrod Bowen.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Hammers from Leeds United earlier this month, totaled 74 points in his most-recent Premier League season in 2022/23, and enjoyed a prolific campaign in the EFL Championship last term.

Originally a product of Feyenoord’s famed Varkenoord youth academy, the Netherlands U21 international is comfortable either on the wing or in the No10 role, and will be desperate to endear himself to the West Ham fans on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

Niclas Füllkrug (7.0m) also looked sharp on his West Ham debut, and becomes the second most-expensive member of the West Ham FPL squad, priced at £7.0m. However, with 51 goals and 24 assists in the previous three seasons for German clubs Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund, the centre-forward will undoubtedly prove a popular choice for managers throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Opposition Watch: Aston Villa

2023/24 was a campaign to remember for Ollie Watkins (9.0m), who recorded a career-best tally of 19 Premier League goals and 13 assists to inspire Aston Villa to UEFA Champions League football, before scoring a memorable 90th-minute goal for England in the semi-final of the Euros against the Netherlands.

The 28-year-old forward, unsurprisingly, is proving to be popular in FPL, with over 50 per cent of managers signing him up as the new season approaches.

It's been a busy transfer window for Villa, who have invested heavily in Unai Emery’s squad ahead of their first Champions League campaign since 1983. The likes of Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene and Samuel Iling-Junior have all arrived in the Midlands, but will face strong competition from Morgan Rogers (5.0m), who has enjoyed a strong start to his Villa career, having netted three goals and provided one assist in his first eight starts after joining from Middlesbrough in January.
