Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek Eight hints and tips

West Ham United continue their 2024/25 Premier League campaign when they head to north London for their fourth away fixture of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, looking to build on momentum they took into the international break.

The Hammers delivered a commanding 4-1 win over Ipswich Town to end their wait for a first home Premier League win of the new campaign, with Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paquetá on target.

Julen Lopetegui’s side will be aiming to extend their three-match unbeaten away run, having won at Crystal Palace and earned hard-fought points at Fulham and Brentford.

West Ham managed to go unbeaten in their meetings with Spurs last season. An inspired second-half showing saw the Hammers fight back from a goal down to claim a valuable 2-1 win in December thanks to second half strikes from Bowen and James Ward-Prowse. Kurt Zouma’s header then rescued a point at London Stadium in the reverse fixture, as the sides played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

Both sides will be full of individuals looking to provide the touch of magic required to make the difference on the day, meaning there are a number of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) decisions to be made in the lead up to kick-off.

The Gameweek Eight transfer deadline is set for 11am on Saturday 19 October ahead of a mouth-watering feast of weekend action that begins with West Ham United’s London derby against Tottenham.

While we will be giving you FPL tips and tricks throughout the remainder of the 2024/25 season on whufc.com, see below for some of our picks for the upcoming round.

For the next fixture, all eyes are on Jarrod Bowen…

Bowen back in form...

Captain Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m) responded to his England snub in the best possible fashion against Ipswich Town last time out by scoring one goal and making two more at London Stadium, where he registered an impressive 12-point haul.

Jarrod Bowen

The West Ham winger enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career last season, netting 16 Premier League goals in addition to supplying six assists.

Arguably, West Ham players have gone a little under the radar this season, and with some reasonably obliging defences coming up in the short term in Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Everton, Bowen can repay the faith put in him by FPL managers with goals.

Well, we can’t say we weren’t warned. Mohammed Kudus (£6.3m) told us his first goal of the season was inevitable and he finally ended his goal-scoring drought in emphatic fashion by finding the back of the net against Ipswich.

Our Ghanian midfielder, with sharp instincts and remarkable physicality, outjumped the Ipswich defenders to nod the ball into an open net. The celebration was vintage Kudus. He calmly seated himself in his signature pose while his teammates surrounded him.

Seven points in Gameweek Seven took Kudus to 19 FPL points for the season, and we can expect the goals to flow now that he has broken his drought.

Opposition Watch: Tottenham

James Maddison (£7.5m) is Spurs’ top-scoring player in FPL across the first seven Gameweeks, producing two goals, three assists and 39 points. That run includes double-figure returns against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion in the last three Gameweeks.

James Maddison

The England international has been a standout performer for Ange Postecoglou’s side so far this season and has an xG tally of 2.0 and an expected assists (xA) total of 3.1.

Spurs have produced 35 shots from set-pieces, more than any other side in the Premier League.

Brennan Johnson (£6.6m) is another in-form option for Spurs.

The Tottenham attacker took a while to settle following his switch from Nottingham Forest last summer, but it's clear to see Johnson's all-round influence on the Spurs attack has clearly grew as time has progressed.

The young midfielder has already racked up three goals and two assists across seven matches, earning 36 FPL points.

Johnson recently joined an exclusive group of only seven Spurs players to score in six consecutive competitive games for the Club since the inception of league football in 1908, and scored his seventh goal in seven consecutive games in Wales' 2-2 draw with Iceland last week.
