Fantasy Premier League | Gameweek 33 hints and tips

There are only six gameweeks left of the Fantasy Premier League season and, on paper, there is not a better time to have West Ham United attackers in your team than this weekend.

Graham Potter’s side welcome already-relegated Southampton to London Stadium on Saturday. The Saints only have pride to play for between now and the end of the season, as they look to accrue just two more points to assure they don’t become the lowest points-scoring team in Premier League history.

The visitors, who currently sit on ten points from their 32 matches, have conceded the most goals in the league this term, 77, so the Hammers will be eyeing up a fruitful afternoon in front of goal on Saturday.

An attacking second-half display at Anfield on Sunday looked set to earn the Irons a point against league-leaders Liverpool, had Virgil van Dijk not planted his header beyond Alphonse Areola in the 89th minute, and Potter’s team will look to carry that same intent in the final third into the visit of bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

The Gameweek 33 transfer deadline is set for 1.30pm on Saturday 19 April, with West Ham hosting Southampton shortly after at 3pm.

Jarrod Bowen

Bowen to sink the Saints again?

Captain Jarrod Bowen (MID, £7.5m) is obviously West Ham’s go-to attacking asset, having accumulated 136 points so far this season.

The skipper, prodding the ball home from close range, was on target in the reverse fixture with his 100th career league goal as West Ham secured a 1-0 victory on the south coast on Boxing Day. Bowen will also be targetting a goal in back-to-back home games on Saturday as he found the back of the net in the Hammers’ last outing at London Stadium with a well-placed header against Bournemouth.

Also on the scoresheet on that sunny afternoon in east London was Niclas Füllkrug (FWD, £6.7m), who was the man that teed up Bowen against Southampton in December. While he has started on the bench in the last three matches, the Germany international has made an impact in the final third when coming on.

Away at Wolves and Liverpool, the 32-year-old came ever so close to scoring, seeing similar headers, that he executed with brilliant technique, come back off the crossbar. And, as mentioned, his bullet header against Bournemouth restored parity in the 2-2 draw with the Cherries less than two weeks ago. Whether Potter starts him from the off on Saturday or chooses to deploy him from the bench, the striker is hungry for goals.

While Southampton have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season, they have also notched the fewest - a division low of 23. Failing to find the back of the net on 13 occasions this term, a West Ham defender has to be considered for your team this week.

Full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka (DEF, £4.5M) is the Irons’ highest points-scoring defender so far, and also provides a threat going forward having orchestrated Andy Robertson’s own-goal at the weekend.

Aaron Ramsdale

Opposition Watch: Southampton

What has been a mostly miserable season for Southampton has been reflected in their FPL scores, with their highest points-scorer coming in the form of Mateus Fernandes (MID, £5m), who has recorded 79 points and is owned by only 0.1 per cent of managers.

With top-scorer Paul Onuachu, who has four top-flight goals this term, a doubt for Saturday’s clash, the goalscoring responsibility will likely fall to Cameron Archer (FWD, £4.9m). With an ownership of 1.2 per cent, the 23-year-old striker, who has started the Saints’ last two matches, certainly acts as a differential as we approach the run-in to the FPL season.

Despite conceding three times on Saturday against Aston Villa, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (GK, £4.4M), chalked up 16 points in Gameweek 32, saving two Marco Asensio penalties, denying the visitors seven times and accumulating three bonus points in the process.
