Łukasz Fabiański’s stunning save to deny Alex Iwobi in West Ham United’s home defeat to Fulham has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Castrol Save of the Month award for April.

The former Poland international’s performance was one of few positives on a disappointing afternoon at London Stadium, and he duly prevented the Cottagers doubling their 1-0 advantage shortly before the hour when he got down low to keep out the visitors’ No22.

After Willian beat Dinos Mavropanos to a lofted ball over the top, the Brazilian drove towards the box before releasing Iwobi to his right, who shot first time with his right foot only for Fabiański to react instinctively and tip the ball past his post.

While enjoying much of his gametime in cup competitions throughout 2023/24, Fabiański impressed during a run of four consecutive Premier League starts in April, and indeed wore the captain’s armband against Fulham.

The five other saves in the running for the award were made by Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels against Marco Silva’s Whites, Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson, Alisson Becker of Liverpool, Burnley’s Arijanet Muric and Manchester United’s André Onana.

Polling closes at 12noon BST on Monday 6 May, with the winner being announced at 2pm BST on Friday 10 May.
