West Ham United suffered a heavy Carabao Cup defeat at Liverpool for the second season in a row, with a 5-1 scoreline bringing their 2024/25 journey in the competition to an end at the third-round stage.
A Jarell Quansah own-goal put the Hammers ahead just after the 20-minute mark, but the lead lasted only four minutes as Portuguese forward Diogo Jota quickly headed in an equaliser.
Jota made it 2-1 to the hosts shortly after half-time before substitute Mohamed Salah got in on the act, and after Edson Álvarez was sent-off for the second of two bookable offences, Cody Gakpo notched a late brace to put further gloss on the result for the Reds.
