New women’s team signing Eva Nyström believes West Ham United is the perfect Club to help take her game to the next level, as she arrives in east London in red-hot form.

The defender joined the Hammers on a two-and-a-half year deal from Swedish side Hammarby, for whom she played over 100 times over a four-season stay.

The Finland international helped her former side to win the top division title in 2023, playing 24 of their 26 league matches, and also lifted the Svenska Cupen in the same campaign.

Signing off the back of starting every group-stage fixture in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, Nyström arrives at Chadwell Heath with confidence in abundance, and is ready to make her mark in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Speaking to manager Rehanne Skinner and international teammate Oona Siren, Nyström made no hesitation in moving to West Ham, and cannot wait to meet the rest of the squad ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Here is everything our new No13 said in her first interview with West Ham TV!

I spoke with Rehanne [Skinner] before I signed and she was very thorough in the way that she introduced the Club to me. It sounded like a really good opportunity for me

Eva, welcome to West Ham United! How does it feel to be here?

It feels really good to be here and I’m excited to get started. Playing in the Women’s Super League in England has always been a dream of mine, and I’m really looking forward to this opportunity.

What was it about West Ham that made you want to join the Club?

After speaking with the Club about the values and how they want to be, it made me very interested, and I’m really pleased to have signed here.

The league is very competitive and that was another reason why I wanted to come here. There are lots of great teams here and every game is a challenge.

Have you had a chance to speak to Rehanne Skinner yet, and if so, what did she say to you?

I spoke with Rehanne before I signed and she was very thorough in the way that she introduced the Club to me. It sounded like a really good opportunity for me, and that’s why I decided to join.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

I would say I’m a strong defender that likes to give everything for the team. I’m technical and I like to have the ball at my feet, but I also enjoy working hard and being involved in the offensive side of the game when I can too.

You’ve tasted domestic success with your previous club, Hammarby. Do you feel like you’re playing some of your best football at the moment as you arrive here in east London?

I’ve had a few good seasons behind me with Hammarby, winning the title and cup and playing in the UEFA Champions League, so I feel really good about my football and the level I’m playing at right now. But I know there's a lot more development that I can do, and I think West Ham will be a really good place for me to do that.

You’ve played with Oona Siren a number of times on the international stage with Finland. Were you able to speak to her about the Club ahead of joining?

Oona said some really good things about the Club when I spoke with her. I know that we have a really good team here and I’m excited to meet all of the players.

Finally, how much are you looking forward to meeting the fans and getting started in Claret and Blue?

I really like to play in front of really passionate fans, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the West Ham supporters. I know that there are good crowds in this league, and we have lots of matches coming up, so I’m excited to meet them and get started here.
